Treating Verrucas

There are many old wives tales told about where Verrucas or Plantar Warts come from and how they are formed but the long and the short of it is that they are very common and affect many people.People who have developed a wart may worry that their appearance is frog-like and can knock their self esteem. Whatever body part a wart may appear on wether it be on the hands, face, neck, feet, they can be a cause of distress, and, if on the feet as in the case of verrucas, discomfort and pain. But, rest assured that they are not dangerous, and in fact treatments are very often simple, sometimes starting with doing nothing at all!

What causes Verrucas

Verrucas are caused by whats known as the Human Papilloma Virus. There is lots of papilloma virus around, and many people carry it on the surface of their skin. It does not cause any harm unless it penetrates into the skin, where it can take hold and cause a wart, this is normally caused from direct contact, through maybe an area of recent injury or crack in the skin. Whether or not you at sometime suffer from verrucas seems to depend on your immune system or sensitivities. Verrucas are quite a common problem which affects approximately 7-10 percent of the population, indeed some people seem to suffer from the condition repeatedly.

What to do about Verrucas

Firstly,try and decide whether it really is a verruca. Verrucas are easily confused with corns and calluses, these are thickened areas of skin caused by friction. Corns although normally appearing on the toes can also occur on the sole of the foot just below the toes. Take a very close look at the verruca, try taking a magnifying glass for clearer examination. Corns and calluses have distinct skin lines (like the lines used in fingerprints) over them,whereas the surface of a verruca is normally rougher and slightly lumpy without lines. If you cannot identify them properly then you are advised to seek the advice of a chiropodist or go and see your own doctor.

Don’t do anything at all???

Sometimes the first thing to do is just cover the verruca with a plaster,a foam pad applied over the top of the affected area can help relieve discomfort from the foot. Around 90% of verrucas are gone within 2 years, with roughly half of them disappearing within 6 months. It is believed that the way in which the body deals with a verruca is by gradually building up resistance to the virus in a natural way. It is widely thought that if a verruca is left to heal by itself, you may be less likely to get others, as your body will become immune to that virus.

Salicylic acid treatment

One of the most commonly used over the counter treatments for verrucas is Salicylic Acid. Salicylic Acid comes in many shapes and forms, it can come as a liquid to be painted on or a plaster to be cut out and placed on the verruca, The treatment normally involves soaking the verruca area in warm water for approximately 10 minutes,gently rubbing the verruca with a pumice or emery board before applying the acid and covering with a plaster or tape.Take care to follow the instructions given with each individual product but the end result is hopefully to return the area back to its former glory.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a freezing treatment that has become popular with many people. Liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the Verruca,the doctor repeats this process several times over a period of a few months, the treatment has proven to be quite successful and normally quicker than the use of acid,also be aware that treatment can be painful, and there is some risk of scarring. A similar product is available from the pharmacies for home use but is not as good at verruca removal as the liquid Nitrogen when applied by your doctor.

There are a host of other treatments available for verruca removal, indeed some have been passed down for generations, some work and many don`t.Please remember that to suffer from verrucas is very commonplace and many disappear as fast as they came,sometimes without treatment.

Most women the world over experience the problem of unwanted body hair.There are numerous products and methods that enable successful hair removal,but many factors,such as,location,cost and ease of application can have a bearing on the choice. For most women, the simplest and quickest method of hair removal from the underarms and legs is by shaving. Razors, either the simple type used to wet shave in the shower, or electric razors are available in designs that have been produced with women in mind.

Shaving removes the hair at the surface of the skin by making a clean cut through it, leaving the skin clear and hair free. Shaving although a quick and easy form of hair removal, doesn’t remove hair for more than a few days,also after shaving, the hair that grows back tends to appear coarser, firstly because the end is blunt after being cut, and secondly because all of the hairs that grow back tend to be more or less the same length. Some other alternative forms of hair removal methods includes depilatory creams, wax or an epilator. These can quite easily all be used at home and don`t really take much longer to do than shaving.

Depilatory creams for instance, once spread over the skin and left for a few minutes, is then scraped off using a tool provided with the cream. The hair is removed chemically from the root, which means that the skin can stay hair free for much longer – up to two weeks – but one of the drawbacks for some people is that the skin can suffer reactions to the chemicals in the cream.

In the case of waxing, hot wax is spread on the skin after which a cloth is placed over the waxed area, pressed firmly, and then finally ripped off the skin, bringing the wax and hair with it. Some people do find this form of hair removal painful, and this can be worse during the initial treatment.

Epilators also pull the hair out by the roots, but do so by hooking individual hairs out as the epilator is moved over the skin. Epilation can also be uncomfortable but modern, wet and dry epilators can be used in the bath or shower with plenty of soap and foam, which helps to minimise this.

None of the hair removal methods above should really be used on facial hair in women, apart from perhaps waxing, which can be done on the eyebrows by a trained beautician. Using tweezers and trimmers to pluck out individual hairs, from the eyebrows and above the top lip can work well, but this does need to be repeated on a regular basis particularly if you have thick eyebrows and want to change their shape significantly. Facial hair can be the most embarrassing type of unwanted body hair in women and can become a major source of stress,whilst for men it is normal to shave and have obvious regrowth most women want to keep facial hair hidden. A permanent solution can be to have professional electrolysis or laser treatment. These both kill the follicle from which an individual hair grows, removing it forever. Treatment has to be done in stages, but several sessions on a top lip will usually sort out the problem for good.Laser treatment is more of a recent development in hair removal and this uses strong laser light to destroy the follicle. It is possible to have laser treatment on larger areas of skin, and many women are delighted with the results. Laser treatment is only available privately, however, and this sort of hair removal treatment can become very expensive,time consuming and many people find it quite invasive..

Eczema causes and treatment

Eczema is a skin condition which can affect roughly one person in 12 at some time or another. Often caused by allergies,Eczema can also be brought on by emotional upsets and

Usually making it`s first appearance during infancy or early childhood and tending to fade away Eczema can also develop for the first time in adults with no prior history of it but most people who develop Eczema have a family history of it. An allergic reaction to cows milk is one of the main reasons for onset in babies and research suggest that at risk families that breastfeed babies reduce the risk of onset.

An inflamed area of skin that becomes dry and cracked or tiny red pimples are the typical signs of Eczema leading to the desperate urge to itch and scratch it which in turn leads to further risks of infection. This scratching can indeed make the skin a lot more painful and cause more discomfort that the eczema itself.

Men’s Skincare Products For The Four Different Types Of Skin

There are different ranges of men’s skincare products and each range has products that are suited to particular skin types. Not everyone’s skin is the same our skin is unique to each one of us. However, men’s skin, just like women’s skin can be broadly classified into types.

Whatever your skincare product you should make sure that you are choosing the one that is best for your skin. There are four main skin types, normal, dry, oily, and combination.

*Normal skin is usually smooth and its pores will be small and virtually invisible. If you have this type of skin then consider yourself lucky because you will usually be able to get away with the most minimal of skin care. Occasionally climate changes may affect your skin and you could find yourself with rough patches. Even normal skin needs protecting from the sun’s harmful rays so at the very least you should use a moisturizer with a UV screen in it.

*Dry skin may need extra care. It is particularly prone to soreness when exposed to the wind and cold weather and therefore should be well moisturized at all times. If you have dry skin then you need to take special care when shaving. There are men’s skincare products that are specially designed to eliminate the extra dryness and soreness that results from having to shave. Skin balms are good for this. Dry skin can be flaky and have a dull appearance, in extreme cases it may become chapped and cracked and for this you need a cream that is especially designed to help with it. You should moisturize morning and evening – it also helps to drink more water.

*People with oily skin are often plagued by blackheads and spots because this skin type tends to attract the dirt. Oily skin also tends to have bigger pores. If you have oily skin then your face will feel oily and look shiny. You need men’s skincare products that are specially formulated for oily skin.

*Combination skins are just what they say they are, a combination of dry and oily skin. There are products that are made to suit this skin type. Normally the oily part tends to be in the middle of the face and across the nose while the cheeks may feel dry.

Taking care of your skin is the same procedure for all men. Most men need to shave at least once a day or every two days. After shaving and washing the face you should moisturize it. Use a moisturizer that has a sun screen built into it – the most favored is SP15. At least once a week you should exfoliate – this gets rid of all the excess dry skin and stimulates the blood flow. Most ranges of men’s skincare products will contain exfoliants.
