DASH diet has taken over the number one spot in the first-ever “Best Diets” rankings published by U.S. News.
The Dash DietThe DASH diet, stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension and was originally created to help people suffering from elevated blood pressure.
According to the U.S. News latest rankings, the best diet depends on what you set out your goals to be. Each of the 20 diets being compared in a study were evaluated based on five different categories: short-term weight loss, long-term weight loss, ease-of-use, nutritional value, usefulness in managing and preventing diabetes and heart disease. For example, for those looking to just lose pounds Weight Watchers ranked first in that category. However, the DASH diet, came out best overall.
The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet beat out 19 other contenders, among them were the Atkins, Jenny Craig and Slim-Fast diets, to win the ‘Best Diets Overall. The diet was highly praised for its heart-healthy design, high nutritional value, safety, and good weight loss potential.
The second-runner up for best overall diet was the Mediterranean Diet.
