It’s impossible to target belly fat specifically when you diet. But losing weight overall will help shrink your waistline; more importantly, it will help reduce the dangerous layer of visceral fat, a type of fat within the abdominal cavity that you can’t see but that heightens health risks, says Kerry Stewart, Ed.D., director of Clinical and Research Physiology at Johns Hopkins.
Ginger tea can also help lower cholesterol and prevent weight-related illness including heart disease. Ginger breaks down fats that can clog arteries and cause heart attacks. Ginger tea works by increasing the body's average temperature, increasing calorie burn. Ginger also helps to suppress appetite by activating happy hormones known as dopamine and norepinephrine. Another reason green tea won't melt away your belly fat? Because losing fat from a specific part of your body — called "spot reduction" — unfortunately does not exist. When you take in fewer calories than you burn, you burn fat from all over your body. Too little sleep or too much sleep can throw your stress and regulatory hormones out of whack, and may lead to weight gain. You’re a father now. You don’t have time to work out for hours each day. What you do have time for is HIIT, or high-intensity interval training. On an intermittent fasting eating plan, you cut calories on some days while eating “normal” on the others. It can take a number of different forms, from squeezing meals into an eight- to twelve-hour window five days a week to eating nothing one day a week. Studies show that intermittent fasting does indeed help people lose weight (though it’s no more effective than a typical calorie-cutting diet). By giving your digestive system a break, you can start burning the fat your body has been storing.
Allow us to throw a wrench in all this weight-loss talk: The evidence of its health benefits isn’t as cut and dry as you’ve been told. A controversial 2013 meta-analysis of almost 100 studies concluded that obesity is linked with all-cause mortality—but overweightness isn’t. Throw in the fact that about 80 percent of dieters will regain the weight, and it’s easy to see why health experts are turning from the calorie-counting approach to a focus on general wellness.
It’s called a “beer belly” for a reason. Boozy bubbles are a major cause of belly bloat, as anyone who’s ever looked in the mirror after a few too many drinks can attest. But it’s not just the carbonation that is the culprit. Alcohol can lead to an overgrowth of bad bacteria in your stomach, leading to gas, not to mention all the empty calories that are going straight to your waistline. Instead, skip the alcohol altogether or limit yourself to one serving per day.
No matter how many crunches you do or how long you hold a plank, you can't spot-reduce belly fat. Sorry! It's one of those unfortunate universal truths, like how eating spicy foods won't speed up your metabolism and doing a juice cleanse won't "detox" your body. But you can make an effort to reduce belly fat if that's the area you are looking to lose weight from — you just have to be strategic about it.

I thought these were three important reasons but after just the few fast-reading chapters, I discovered that there are other, far more important, health-related reasons to lose the belly fat. Even more so, this book demystified for me WHY the fat was there in the first place. See, I don't eat junk food. I don't drink beer. I ride my bike to work daily, etc. So, it didn't make sense that I was getting fat. This book explained why it's unhealthy and how to get rid of it. I am excited to get started on the actual diet (which is not the strenuous exercise and calorie deprivation regimen you're expecting) which I think will add a few years to my life as well as remove inches from my middle.
Do you even lift, bro? If you’re serious about getting rid of that belly fat fast, resistance training might just be the key. A study from the Harvard School of Public Health found that adding weight training to adult male test subjects’ workouts significantly reduced their risk of abdominal obesity over a multi-year study period, although doing the same amount of cardio had no such effect. Research from the University of Maryland even found that just 16 weeks of weight training boosted study participants’ metabolic rates by a whopping 7.7 percent, making it easier to ditch those extra inches around your middle.
"Protein is great for fat loss. It helps build and preserve lean muscle tissue and can increase the amount of calories you burn. It’s also a great source of energy that helps you feel fuller for longer, so you’re less tempted to snack. Good sources include chicken breast, tuna, eggs, milk and chickpeas. And if you’re finding it difficult to avoid snacks that are high in carbohydrates, try substituting them for protein shakes or bars. Remember also to opt for the lean sources of protein because some sources can be high in saturated fat."
